Wreaths made of thumbtacks, dryer lint, a tire, steel scouring pads, plastic eyes, and candy wrappers are among the 30 creative wreaths on display this year
As New Yorkers and visitors alike flock to Wollman Rink, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and the many wonderful holiday events taking place around the city, everyone’s favorite yule time tradition has returned to the Arsenal Gallery – the annual Wreath Interpretations exhibit! A holiday tradition since 1982, NYC Parks is once again ringing in the season with Wreath Interpretations, featuring whimsical wreaths handcrafted by Parks employees, artists, designers, and creative individuals of all ages.
“The holiday season has truly arrived at NYC Parks with the opening of our Wreath Interpretations exhibit, and this year’s collection of impressive wreaths is perhaps the best we’ve ever showcased,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “This exhibit strikes to the core of our work at parks, encapsulating the creativity and ingenuity that Parkies are known for, and with a great offering of over 30 unique wreaths this year, there is sure to be something to capture everyone’s imagination. I invite all New Yorkers to come out and enjoy this wonderful Parks tradition this season.”
Now in its 41st year, this year’s exhibition features more than 30 imaginative wreaths, utilizing unusual and unexpected materials to re-imagine the traditional holiday decoration. Visitors will see wreaths made of thumbtacks, dryer lint, a tire, steel scouring pads, plastic eyes, and candy wrappers.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Groups of five or more people can call 212-360-8114 or email artandantiquities@parks.nyc.gov to pre-register. For more information, visit nyc.gov/parks/art.
*The Arsenal Gallery will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
