PURPLE OSAGE WITH FLOWERS, glass, 3 ¾ x 3 ¾ x 4 in.
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 6, 6-8 pm.
Awesome in their craft mastery and resonant with concern for the environmental turmoil we face, Pamela Sabroso and Alison Siegel’s exuberant, vessel-based forms take on the shape and surface structure of the plants, fruits, vegetables, and shells which they use to make their molds. The resulting works are small in scale, but limitless in their vision, eliciting a sense of exuberance and joy. With sophisticated, labor-intensive process the two artists channel an essential creative freedom that recalls the early American Studio Glass practitioners’ exploration of glassblowing in the tumultuous Age of Aquarius.
Pamela Sabroso holds a 2007 BFA in Crafts and Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Alison Siegel received her BA in English and Glass in 2009 at Alfred University. The two met living & working in Brooklyn, but now work collaboratively between New York, NY and Kansas City, MO. Works by these award-winning artists are held in private and public collections including the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning NY), the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY), and the National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Trondheim, Norway).
