For the first time ever, the Library will provide unlimited e-book access to select Best Books, guaranteeing no wait times on some of the top titles of the year

Physical book giveaways planned in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island

The New York Public Library on Thursday announced itsย Best Books of 2025, a list of 225 titles expertly curated by librarians, featuring some of the most popular titles that New Yorkers are reading now.ย

And in a first, the Library is offering unlimited e-book access to a selection of its Best Booksโ€” eliminating wait times on these top titles in a range of genres. From November 20 through December 31, NYPL cardholders will be able to access these books using the Libby app.

The Library is also giving away physical copies of top books of the year at three flagship branches throughout the cityโ€”Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in Midtown Manhattan, the Bronx Library Center, and the St. George Library Center in Staten Island.

โ€œIโ€™m thrilled to announce the launch of our Best Books of 2025โ€”a reflection of our commitment to representing the incredible diversity and creativity in literature today. This year, we are building on our mission of expanding access to knowledge by making some of the most in-demand books immediately available for free download for all card holders, as well as offering book giveaways in branches. I canโ€™t wait for New Yorkers to get their hands on these books, and hope they return to the Library time and again for their next book too,โ€ said Brian Bannon, Chief Librarian and Merryl and James Tisch Director of Branch Libraries and Education.
