Theater Row in conjunction with United Solo will present the debut of fashion and “Project Runway” television star Austin Scarlett in his hotly anticipated one-man show “Satin Secrets: A Night with Austin Scarlett” at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, NYC 10036) on Saturday, November 15 at 7:00 PM and Wednesday, November 19 at 8:30 PM.  “Satin Secrets: A Night with Austin Scarlett” is directed by Dusty Childers and features musical director Paul Leschen on the piano. The show has costume design by Austin Scarlett, scenic design by Chris Fields, and lighting design by Paul Jonathan Davis. Tickets to the show are HERE. 

Enter the glittering world of “Project Runway” star Austin Scarlett as the artist, couture designer, and television personality reveals all in an evening of fashion, fantasy, storytelling and song. Join Austin as he pulls back his silken curtain, sharing secrets, dreams, happiness, and heartache from the runway and beyond. Making his stage debut, Scarlett swoons, croons and twirls his way though a dizzying array of costume changes, interpreting a personally curated songbook of glamorous jazz standards, vintage vinyl, and a few special surprises. The roles of designer, model, muse, and chanteuse interweave in a show that celebrates creativity, self-expression and the empowering force of style. 

Known for his glamorous and elegant couture creations, Austin Scarlett is a designer whose work spans the realms of fashion, theater and pop culture.  His work has been described as “magic” by The New York Times, “technically brilliant and aesthetically sublime” Madame Figaro, and “fit for a goddess” by Elle. After training at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Art Students League of New York, Austin first gained major recognition with his appearance on the original season of “Project Runway,” and his iconic cornhusk dress design. Scarlett went on to develop and produce his own cross country fashion television program, “On the Road with Austin and Santino,” with Santino Rice (“RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Project Runway”). 

In 2012 Austin launched his signature collection of couture bridal and evening gowns, carried at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and luxury retailers around the globe. Costume design projects include The Public Theater’s Three Little Girls Down a Well; Park Avenue Armory’s Iridescence Gala; Juilliard Opera’s La Calisto; Fort Worth Opera’s With Blood, With Ink; Santa Fe Ballet; David Parsons Dance on PBS; and Shen Wei Dance Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Dusty Childers (Director) is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator who has worn the chapeaus of director, producer, dramaturgist,  costumer, and stylist. Dusty’s body and body of work have graced the likes of The Guggenheim, St. Ann’s, The Whitney, BAM, Parsons, Joe’s Pub, Pratt, Sundance, SXSW, Signature Theater, Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, The Town Hall, Abrons Art Center, NY Live Arts, The Wild Project, Dixon Place, Irving Plaza, SoHo Rep, Sony Music Hall, Bushwig, and Judson Memorial Church. He has worked with Taylor Mac, Justin Vivian Bond, Ari Shapiro, Christeene, Penny Arcade, Machine Dazzle, Nayland Blake, Karen Finley, and Miguel Gutierrez, among others).

Paul Leschen (Music Director) is a composer, songwriter and pianist who attended Northwestern University. Paul is a fixture among the downtown cabaret scene, playing at Joe’s Pub, Sid Gold’s, and collaborating with artis such as Scissor Sisters, Amber Martin, Hedda Lettuce, Murray Hill, and Michel Musto. He is the co-creator and composer of the New York Times’ “Critics Pick” musical Bedbugs!!!

Chris Fields (Scenic Design) recently designed sets for Revolution at the Flea Theatre. He has been props designer for ten shows with the Mint Theater Company. He was previously props master at Shakespeare & Co., Barrington Stage Company, Flat Rock Playhouse, Contemporary American Theater Festival, the Public Theater. Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC). Broadway: Anna Karenina at Circle in the Square, in addition to The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, as well as the goat for the original production of Edward Albee’s The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?. He designed the set for the Obie Award- winning production of The Houseguests by the late Harry Kondolean. He is a BFA graduate of UNC-Greensboro in Acting but has been acting, writing, directing, and designing (props, sets, and costumes) since the fourth grade. Obie Award winner and a member of ACT UP. 

Paul Jonathan Davis (Lighting Design) is a New York-based lighting designer. Recent design credits include: Heartbreak HotelHairsprayWaitressAlways… Patsy Cline (Theatre by the Sea); D.R.E.A.D /DreadSymphonyPericles (NYU/Tisch). Assistant and associate credits include: Garside’s Career (Yiyuan Li), The Least Problematic Woman in the World (Cha See), Hadestown Second National Tour (Aja Jackson).
