Designed to develop leaders playing an essential role within our city’s digital infrastructure.

27 public sector IT leaders were selected for inaugural cohort from more than 100 nominations.

New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Commissioner Louis A. Molina and New York City Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Matthew Fraser today convened the city’s first-ever Information Technology (IT) Management Academy designed to develop top talent and play a vital role in shaping and sustaining our digital infrastructure. Over the next three months, 27 full-time public sector professionals in director-level roles and above from 19 diverse city entities will take part in a tailored curriculum centered around strengthening managerial skills, enhancing strategic thinking, and deepening understanding of citywide technology operations. The NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) is covering the full program cost for the initial cohort to remove financial barriers to participation and underscore the critical role IT leadership plays in advancing the city’s digital future.

For more than 20 years, DCAS’ Management Academy has served as the city’s premier professional development program for managers. This new program, which starts today with an orientation at 1 Centre Street and runs until October 30, marks the first offering of its kind exclusively for IT leaders in New York City.

The IT Management Academy’s curriculum focuses on three core areas: developing and utilizing human resources, understanding the operational aspects of city systems and processes, and learning best practices from IT executives. Along the way, emerging IT leaders will receive unique opportunities to learn about topics such as leading high-performing IT teams, enhancing emotional intelligence, aligning technology resources with business objectives, and communication and stakeholder engagement – insights and skills that can be used to improve agency performance and service delivery, and better position participants for future leadership roles. Additionally, IT leaders will have a valuable opportunity to build a strong professional network across city agencies, allowing them to exchange ideas, share best practices, and foster cross-agency collaboration that supports long-term career growth.

Academy participants were chosen from more than 100 nominations. OTI and DCAS evaluated nominees based on leadership potential and impact to their current role, commitment to public service, strong communication, collaboration skills and agency support.
