Multimedia works by 15 contemporary artists connect the queer experience in all its diversity to the fluidity of the natural world
June 12, 2025 – August 22, 2025
NYC Parks is proud to present Queer in Nature, a free group exhibition of works by fifteen artists highlighting the abundance of queerness in everyday urban and natural environments. Spanning a range of materials, from oil paint to mycelium moss, the featured artworks emphasize that cohesion and unity can be found in complexity and diversity as they connect the plurality of the queer experience to the fluidity of the natural world.
An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm.
Opening during Pride Month, Queer in Nature is presented by NYC Parks’ Stonewall Society. Founded in 2013, the Stonewall Society provides a forum and refuge for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans/gender non-conforming, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual+, and LGBTQIA+ employees and their allies. It is named after the Stonewall Riots of 1969, which took place at the Stonewall Inn and were spearheaded by Black Trans activists in response to a crackdown on “homosexual activity” by local law enforcement. The Society strives to recognize the achievements and contributions of its members, educate about LGBTQIA+ topics, and advocate for the community.
