With robust programming, book lists spotlighting LGBTQIA+ voices, and historical collections that amplify LGBTQIA+ experiences, NYPL will celebrate Pride Month with a wide range of offerings. Of the more than sixty programs across NYPL’s 90+ branches, highlights include the Pride edition of Library After Hours, a reading of Super Gay Poems, and a creative workshop exploring identity and self-expression. Program highlights:
- June 3: Teen Banned Book Club with Trung Le Nguyen on The Magic Fish, a moving graphic novel about a Vietnamese American teen using fairy tales to navigate identity and family.
- June 6: The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library opens its rooftop terrace to teens who’d rather stay in for a pajama party than go out for this year’s Quiet Queers.
- June 10: Melrose Library in the Bronx will host a Pride party for teens with crafts and giveaways.
- June 13: The Pride edition of Library After Hours, a premier event series by LIVE from NYPL, will feature notable guests from the LGBTQ+ Archives, live performances, and special displays in a building-wide takeover of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
- June 18: Curated by Stephanie Burt, Super Gay Poems is a boundary-pushing anthology of 51 poems tracing the evolution of queer poetry since the Stonewall Riots. The reading will feature Burt alongside Jee Leong Koh, Marisa Crawford, Marilyn Hacker, and more in conversation.
- June 20: Anti-Prom comes to Manhattan, featuring a special fashion show and dance performance in a night of fun at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
