LockerNYC Hits Milestone 10,000th Package Delivery, New Locations Set to Launch in Brooklyn and Queens

Delivery Lockers Help Prevent Package Theft and Reduce Truck Traffic by Consolidating Deliveries to a Centralized Location

New Locations Set To Launch at Jackson Heights and Sunset Park

A major milestone in the city’s LockerNYC program, New York City ‘s free, secure public delivery locker program was announced today. New Yorkers have now made more than 10,000 reservations for package deliveries through the system, providing a safe, reliable alternative to at-home orders in neighborhoods where buildings often lack secure mail or package rooms and where package theft is a problem. The delivery lockers also improve street safety by reducing truck traffic on busy city streets by consolidating deliveries at central locations. The milestone includes packages delivered to and sent by users of the lockers.

As online shopping continues to rise, 80 percent of households in New York City receive at least one package per week, and 20 percent receive four or more. But with more than 90,000 packages reported stolen or lost in transit each day, according to the New York Times, many New Yorkers are looking for dependable alternatives. Over 1,400 users have signed up to use LockerNYC across 22 sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. A recent survey of GoLocker users found that over 70 percent signed up to reduce the chance of package theft and nearly 65 percent want to see more locker locations added citywide. 

FUTURE LOCATIONS

GoLocker will activate an outdoor site at 5009 Sixth Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The location of an outdoor site in Jackson Heights, Queens will be determined within the coming weeks. Additional indoor locations are also in development. 

Among the current LockerNYC sites, eight locations are inside local businesses in partnership with GoLocker, expanding access to secure deliveries while supporting small businesses. The remaining 14 locations are installed on sidewalks across the city. 

LockerNYC is completely free to use, and each location is carefully selected using criteria like building density, sidewalk space, and NYPD package theft data. NYC DOT has prioritized historically underserved neighborhoods when selecting locker sites, focusing on areas that have lacked secure delivery options or where package theft is more common. This aligns with agency’s commitment to equity by ensuring that all New Yorkers – regardless of zip code – have access to safe and convenient delivery options. 

Once a customer registers through GoLocker’s webpage, they can direct package deliveries to the locker of their choice. When a package is delivered, the recipient is notified with the locker number and a unique code to retrieve it. A similar process allows for easy package returns, all without needing to wait at home or visit a crowded post office. 

GoLocker units are built to withstand harsh NYC weather and include features like anti-theft technology, overhead security cameras, and added lighting for safe, 24/7 access. Lockers are vinyl-wrapped for quick graffiti removal and are actively monitored for cleanliness and maintenance. Since the pilot launched, no graffiti incidents have been reported, and there have been no security breaches.
