With the 10-year remembrance of Eric Garner’s passing this week, we wanted to make sure you’re aware of an honorary production this Friday, July 19 – produced by Dartmouth’s Hopkins Center for the Arts (the Hop) in collaboration with Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr.
The Ritual of Breath is the Rite to Resist uses music, dance, and a community choir to address police violence with a story centered on Eric’s daughter, Erica. The work features a 90-person chorus of singers from Sing Harlem and Dartmouth College Gospel Choir. It will be presented at the Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park on July 19 at 8:30 pm, with the work grounded by a creative team with activist Dr. Shamell Bell, Gwen Carr, and a group of mothers who have lost their children to police violence.
