Celebrating the Spirit of Balcones Distilling

The Other Art Fair is partnering with the award-winning Balcones Distilling to celebrate the artistry of whisky-making and the connection between craftsmanship and creative possibility.

The distilling team, with backgrounds in art, music and writing, led by a head distiller who is a master in both whisky and ceramics, are artists who happen to be distillers. The team relishes in every detail of whisky making in Texas and is committed to creating unique, expressive whiskies that reflect the people they are and the place they are from.

At the heart of this partnership is the “Spirit of Balcones: Artist in Residence Program”, a new initiative to empower artists to transcend traditional studios and create artwork that showcases their interpretation of bold, free thinking, reinvention, and embracing the magnetic sense of possibility that comes from expressing your full self. The mural created by local artist Keya Tama symbolizes unity. He combines sharp and rounded symbols of nature to create a dreamlike homage to the volatile Texas climate. Motifs like fire, cacti, mountains, and more, converge, creating a harmonious balance reminiscent of the moon and the sun in an eclipse, taking inspiration from the latest innovation from Balcones: Mirador Eclipse American Single Malt. Keya’s artistic palette naturally aligns with the Balcones brand, yet their connection transcends mere aesthetics. Keya’s innovative approach, blending ancient and contemporary influences, mirrors the Balcones philosophy toward whisky-making: both honoring tradition while embracing innovation and aspiring toward a future that respects the past while staying grounded in the present.

An Exclusive Tasting Experience: Attendees will have the chance to indulge in the expressive flavors of Balcones whisky while they explore the fair. Enjoy hand-crafted Balcones cocktails and partake in an exclusive tasting experience with Balcones distilling team, exploring the art of whisky-making. The tastings will feature a variety of Balcones expressions, including Texas 1 Single Malt, Lineage Texas Single Malt, Baby Blue, and Rye Bottled in Bond.
