Popular (and Tasty) Smorgasburg, GrowNYC Greenmarket Kick Off Return of Weekly Events

Yoga, Meditation Classes on Tap at Wellness Wednesdays, Drinks Flow at Oculus Beer Garden

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced an exciting slate of food markets, fitness classes, and other diverse activities as spring blooms around the World Trade Center campus. These include the return of the popular and delicious Smorgasburg food market and the GrowNYC farmers market, along with the Wellness Wednesdays fitness program and the Oculus Beer Garden.

“Along with its standing as a global economic hub, the campus of the World Trade Center has also solidified its status as a premier destination for food, shopping and entertainment of all kinds,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “We’re proud to provide a home for these events as they bring the community together and help create new memories in this remarkable setting.”

“The World Trade Center campus is a year-round hub of vibrant activities and lively events for all ages,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “As the weather turns warmer, there are even more opportunities on campus to enjoy art, food, yoga, shopping, theater and more. The warmer weather brings out a palpable community spirit on campus, and we are excited for locals and visitors to take part in the extensive slate of festivities.”

“Alongside exhilarating events, World Trade Center visitors can experience a plethora of shopping and dining featuring best-in-class brands,” said Westfield World Trade Center General Manager Marco Maldonado. “Epicureans can relish in global flavors from the likes of Eataly and Gansevoort Liberty Market, and also look forward to the highly anticipated fall opening of Fogo de Chão.”

The season’s offerings at the World Trade Center include:

  • Opened as of April 1, the Oculus Beer Garden offers refreshing drinks, light bites, and stunning city views at the corner of Church and Vesey streets. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting.
  • Ongoing, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Fridays throughout the spring and summer, the return of the wildly popular Smorgasburg food market offers a diverse array of more than 30 vendors serving everything from barbecue to oysters to ice cream. Additionally, as part of Smorgasburg’s waste reduction efforts, customers and vendors can discard their food scraps and compostable service ware at two compost stations. An estimated six tons of compost is expected to be diverted from landfill per year.
  • Starting May 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., go with the flow during Wellness Wednesdays through quiet meditation or invigorating yoga amid the bustling city. Includes yoga instruction, meditation sessions, high-intensity interval training classes, and more.
  • Starting June 4, on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the GrowNYC Greenmarket will sell fruits, vegetables, baked goods and dairy products from local and regional family farmers.

The programming complements the growing list of top-tier dining, shopping, and cultural offerings at the World Trade Center, including the acclaimed PAC NYC Performing Arts Center that opened in September 2023. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency that builds, operates, and maintains many of the most important transportation and trade infrastructure assets in the country. For over a century, the agency’s network of major airports; critical bridges, tunnels and bus terminals; a commuter rail line; and the busiest seaport on the East Coast has been among the most vital in the country – transporting hundreds of millions of people and moving essential goods into and out of the region. The Port Authority also owns and manages the 16-acre World Trade Center campus, which today welcomes tens of thousands of office workers and millions of annual visitors. The agency’s historic $37 billion 10-year capital plan includes unprecedented transformation of the region’s three major airports – LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and JFK – as well as an array of other new and upgraded assets, including the $2 billion renovation of the 90-year-old George Washington Bridge. The Port Authority’s annual budget of $8 billion includes no tax revenue from either the states of New York or New Jersey or from the City of New York. The agency raises the necessary funds for the improvement, construction or acquisition of its facilities primarily on its own credit.
