The world famous New Year’s Eve Ball is tested atop One Times Square

Flip Switch to Illuminate and Raise 11,875-Pound Ball

In final preparation for New Year’s Eve, the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball was illuminated and sent up the 130-foot pole atop One Times Square today Saturday, December 30th.

Event co-organizers Jeffrey Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, and Tom Harris, President of the Times Square Alliance, along with Josh Weinstein, President, CEO, and Chief Climate Officer of Carnival Corporation, flipped the giant switch to initiate the spectacular, kaleidoscope lighting effects, illuminated by 32,256 energy efficient LEDs and enhanced by 2,688 crystal triangles.

“Carnival Cruise Lines is thrilled to be back in Times Square to celebrate the new year,” said Weinstein. “This is America’s New Year’s Party, and we’re America’s cruise line – it’s a perfect match for ringing in 2024. Because nobody does fun like Carnival for New Year’s Eve!”

The Ball is capable of displaying a palette of more than 16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns that creates the spectacular kaleidoscope effect atop One Times Square.

Carnival Cruise Line is the official cruise line sponsor of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration.
