The return of Open Streets will transform Fifth Avenue into a pedestrianized holiday haven on December 3rd, 10th and 17th
“The Gift of Fifth” will celebrate the Avenue with one-of-a-kind retail experiences, partnerships, and holiday decor
The Fifth Avenue Association (FAA), whose mission is to protect, elevate, and advance Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, today announced its holiday lineup for December’s Open Streets with dynamic holiday activations, in an overarching campaign “The Gift of Fifth.” FAA will showcase spectacular photo moments, holiday-themed food and beverages, live performances, store giveaways and activations on car-free streets from 48th Street to 59th Street for three Sundays in December, all to enhance the pedestrian experience as they celebrate the season partaking in world-class retail, hotels, restaurants, and cultural institutions.
The return of Fifth Avenue Open Streets will welcome an estimated 500,000 visitors during the first three Sundays in Dec. from 12 – 6 p.m. To provide visitors with a unique holiday experience, Fifth Avenue will host 11 blocks of curated programming, including 19 food and beverage partners, more than 15 participating retail brands and eight performance areas.
“Fifth Avenue is always iconic, but during this holiday season everything will be even more exceptional and beautiful,” said Marie Boster, President of Fifth Avenue Association. “The Gift of Fifth gives all New Yorkers and visitors more beauty, more music, more creative seasonal food, and for the first three Sundays in December, more space beyond the sidewalks to take it all in. We are grateful to our partners for sharing in our vision to transform our streetscape into a winter wonderland for everyone.”
Elegant and innovative sidewalk decor:
Beginning November 20th, The Gift of Fifth will transform upper Fifth Avenue into a holiday wonderland and enhance the pedestrian experience at a grand scale never-before-seen on the Avenue with new sidewalk decor. An installation of 150 live Fraser and Noble firs glowing with warm white lights will line the sidewalk atop 50 custom silver platforms. A double arch photo moment will be stationed outside GM Plaza (767 Fifth Avenue) made of holiday greenery and representative of a gift. The Fifth Avenue Association worked with Holiday Collective again to bring its holiday vision to life.
Open Streets world class entertainment:
The Avenue’s decor will set the stage for a diverse lineup of free performances carefully curated by FAA to connect to Fifth Avenue’s history and community. The Doris Duke Foundation will provide Grammy Award winning jazz singers on December 17th and pay tribute to the Avenue’s rich role in jazz history, even earning the nickname “Swing Street” for a stretch that hosted legendary musicians like Miles Davis and Billie Holiday during the early 20th century. Other performers include Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra, jazz ensemble provided by Hire Juilliard Performers, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Metropolitan Klezmer, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, all showcasing the cultural vibrancy of Fifth Avenue during the festive season.
Open Streets custom food and beverage menus:
Open Streets visitors will have the opportunity to sample a variety of holiday-themed food and beverages from Fifth Avenue brands and selected NYC-based vendors. Foodies can enjoy a blackcurrant donut and non-alcoholic eggnog from The Modern, an award-winning, two Michelin-starred restaurant at the Museum of Modern Art. The popular Longchamp x Angelina pop-up cafe will return to offer world-famous hot chocolate in front of Longchamp’s Fifth Avenue Flagship. FAA collaborated with local favorite vendors to craft premium offerings exclusive to Fifth Avenue, such as Tiffany Blue bao buns (Mao’s Bao) and “Fifth Avenue Pearl” bubble tea (Tea and Milk).
Fifth Avenue retail pop-ups and experiences during Open Streets:
To enhance their world-famous window displays and store decor, a selection of Fifth Avenue retailers and hotels will join in The Gift of Fifth by creating exclusive pop-up experiences ranging from customized treats to photo moments, to on-site merchandise customizations and artistry. Participating Fifth Avenue Association brands include Assouline, Bergdorf Goodman, Coach, DIOR, Longchamp, P448, The Plaza, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, Puma, Tag Heuer and Victoria’s Secret, with more to be announced. To further enhance Fifth Avenue’s unparalleled gift offerings, FAA will giveaway keepsake gift tags.
UNIQLO, the renowned LifeWear brand with its Flagship on Fifth Avenue, is generously providing uniforms for the FAA team that seamlessly combine style and functionality, ensuring the team’s warmth and comfort throughout the festivities.
Fifth Avenue gives back:
Throughout the holiday season, Fifth Avenue is encouraging visitors to join in supporting the American Red Cross and their mission to alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. 100% of donations via the custom URL provided by the Red Cross will go directly to support the American Red Cross.
