In honor of the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip hop and a celebration of Black cuisine and culture, join us at this brand new Pier event to close out the 16th annual Festival on Pier 86, on Sunday, October 15th at 4pm.
Join James Beard Award-winning chef JJ Johnson and Rev Run, founding member of Run DMC and star of the TV show “Sunday Suppers,” as they help connect rhyming and refreshments, flowing and feeding, hip-hop and noshing. JJ Johnson, has invited the best Black chefs in New York, to showcase their signature cuisine, which, similar to hip hop, is a storytelling artform where chefs are the artists reconstructing past foodways and honoring culturally relevant ingredients and techniques. If that’s not enough to get you intrigued and hungry, Chef Johnson will attempt to set the world’s record for the largest amount of joloff—a delicious West African rice dish—cooked at one time.
Even better, there will be a performance by the popular DJ CASSIDY and ’90s icons and Grammy award-winners Rev Run and Ice-T. Our MCs will be Tamron Hall, Emmy award-winning host of the Tamron Hall Show, and Angela Yee from Way Up with Angela Yee from iHeart Radio’s Power 105.1. Plus, there will be plenty of beer, wine and cocktails to go with the food and beats.
This closing event to the 16th annual New York City Wine and Food Festival will be a serious rapper’s delight! See line up of chefs here: https://nycwff.org/cookout/
