Extinction Rebellion NYC is telling the Naked Truth about climate change! On Sunday, September 10th, we’re inviting bike riders from all over the New York area to be as bare as they dare and ride to end fossil fuels. We’re not just riding for kicks; we’re rolling for the planet! By pedaling naked, we’re sending a bold message about slashing our carbon footprint by promoting cycling and protesting the world’s continued dependence on fossil fuels.
This event is also a prelude to the September 17th “Biden: End Fossil Fuels” mass march in New York City. The summer of smoke-filled skies, scorching heat waves, devastating wildfires and catastrophic floods is shifting public sentiment about the urgency of the climate and ecological crisis. President Biden, however, continues to follow the path of business as usual with the fossil fuel industry. On the 17th, Extinction Rebellion NYC will be marching alongside People vs Fossil Fuels, a powerful coalition representing over 1,200 grassroots, frontline and national organizations urging the president to take immediate action.
In addition, on September 20th in New York, the UN Climate Ambition Summit will gather world leaders to commit to phasing out fossil fuels. The march on the 17th is thus a chance for thousands of people to take to the streets prior to the summit to make our voices heard. Sunday’s bike ride is a means to raise awareness about this important event.
Join us at Columbus Circle on Sunday, September 10, 12:15 – 2:30 PM ET (weather permitting)
NOTE: This is not intended to be an arrestable action. Those bringing their own vehicles to the event can be as bare as they dare. However, for sanitary purposes, those using rideshare vehicles (e.g., Citibike) are required to wear underpants or shorts during their ride. Please note that there will be photo and video cameras recording the event, so those who prefer anonymity should wear a costume or COVID mask.

About Extinction Rebellion
Time has almost entirely run out to address the climate and ecological crisis, including the sixth mass extinction, global pollution, and abrupt, runaway climate change. Societal collapse and mass death are seen as inevitable by scientists and other credible voices if rapid action is not taken. Extinction Rebellion believes it is a citizen’s duty to rebel, using peaceful civil disobedience, when faced with criminal inactivity by their Government.
Extinction Rebellion’s key demands are:
- Tell the Truth – Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.
- Act Now – Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
- Beyond Politics – Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
- Just Transition – Government must commit to a just transition in order to maintain a livable, just planet for all.
