This Saturday, July 15 LMCC will kick up its annual summer Take Care Series at The Arts Center at Governors Island with two fun and free engaging arts programs:
- An Open Studios offering from its 2023 Session One Artists-in-Residence
- A Self Actualization Portraits Workshop from artist Paul De
Having seen just a glimpse of the current Session One class during a preview tour at the Arts Center last month, I feel the 1pm-5pm Open Studios program stands out as a great event to cover. Artist Hannah Lutz Winkler, for example, will be sharing work from an ongoing project focused on the island’s sheep landscaping crew, including work woven by the artist from the aforementioned sheep’s wool. Welcoming artists whose practice is self-directed and process-based and who would benefit from the unique resources and location of the Arts Center at Governors Island, LMCC residents are a rather singularly rooted and throughgoing cohort.
Other participating artists include Aaron Cobbett, Aika Akhmetova, Ana Cordeiro, Ayling Dominguez, Daniel Clurman, Da’Niro Elle Brown, Edgar Moza, ELENA BAJO, Erica Shires, Jenny Eunjung Cho, Katerina Vo, Marina Gutierrez, Maria Rodriguez Jimenez, Matt Whitman, Néstor Pérez-Molière, Phyllis Sanfiorenzo, Priscilla Stadler, and Sally Twin. These two July 15 events will be followed by further programs scheduled in August and September.
