THE GREEN ROOM 42 – the intimate concert venue dubbed Broadway’s “off-night hotspot” by The New York Times – will present the New York solo concert debut of beloved Broadway veteran Janine LaManna in “Black & Gold” for two shows on Saturday, June 10 and Monday, June 26, both at 7:00 PM. From her breakout role as Gertrude McFuzz in Broadway’s Seussical, through notable appearances in Sweet Charity, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Look of Love, and more, to her recent Off-Broadway triumph in Kander & Ebb’s Woman of the Year, she shares some of her most memorable moments on stage and off. The show includes career highlights from musicals such as Seussical, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and The Look of Love, in addition to pop standards like “The Man That Got Away,” “Blues in the Night,” and “Fever.” Come discover what “Black & Gold” really means to her unique journey in life. She reunites with Seussical’s Steve Marzullo, who serves as the show’s musical director. The show also features Ray Marchica on drums and Jeff Lopez on bass.
Janine LaManna was last seen on Broadway as Janet Van De Graaff in the Tony Award-winning hit, The Drowsy Chaperone. Preceding this sensational production, she played the role of Nickie in the revival of Sweet Charity, starring Christina Applegate. But it was Janine’s portrayal of Gertrude McFuzz in the Broadway musical Seussical, that earned her a Drama Desk nomination for “Best Featured Actress in a Musical” and a Grammy nomination for the original cast album. Other Broadway credits include Lois Lane in Kiss Me, Kate; The Look of Love: The Music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David; Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime; and Swing! Her national tour credits include Velma Kelly in Chicago and standing in for Chita Rivera in Kiss of the Spider Woman. She also appeared with the New York Philharmonic in Lincoln Center’s production of Candide as Paquette, which aired on PBS Great Performances.
Janine was the first actor to play Carmen Sandiego on the PBS series, “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” Her other TV and film credits include: Two Weeks Notice, “Devious Maids” and several appearances on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” NBC’s “Today,” The Tony Awards, CTV and CNN. Select Off-Broadway credits include: Woman of the Year, Enter Laughing, and High Spirits. Her regional credits include: The Prom (WPPAC), Noises Off (Cape Playhouse), Sweet Potato Queens (2019 Broadway World Award winner, New Stage), Evita (Pioneer) and Aida (IRNE Nomination, North Shore Theater). Janine has had the honor of working with some of the greatest songwriters of our time, including Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Frank Wildhorn, and Walter Marks. In 2007, after she was featured on CNN for her roles as a Broadway star and military wife and mother, Janine sang at the White House for National Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
STEVE MARZULLO boasts New York credits including: music direction for the original Broadway casts of Disaster! and Once On This Island; associate conductor for Mamma Mia!, Seussical, Grease (1994 Revival), Saturday Night, Floyd Collins, and A Little Night Music (E.L.T.); pianist/keyboards for Ragtime (Original Broadway Cast), Sweeney Todd (1989 Revival), Smile, and Olympus On My Mind; as well as the concert versions of Dreamgirls, Funny Girl, Chess, On the 20th Century, They’re Playing Our Song, and Company (original 1970 cast).
