As a child, nothing fascinated me more than the circus. A magical place full of emotions where I discovered the meaning of the word duality. I walked in a tightrope between joy and sadness, happiness and nostalgia in equal proportion, like the characters in the circus. As a society we have become a beautiful paradox, a great circus where strange characters seek love and constant approval. A FREAK SHOW where we are all actors, jugglers, models, clowns, life coaches, dancers and even porn stars, exposing our raw virtues in exchange for a “LIKE”. We live in the “future” of Andy Warhol, where we are all famous for 15 minutes if we know how to hide our flaws. We belong to the ĢˆALL ABOUT ME Ģˆ generation, capable of turning everything, including matters of the heart, into monetizable assets.

Visual Artist Gustavo Fernandez presents: “Life is a Circus”, A Beautiful Paradox. A solo, mixed media art exhibition with a Circus theme. “Life is a Circus” serves as a metaphor for life in NYC, where people from all walks of life coexist, each with their own unique qualities and idiosyncrasies.

Gustavo aims to celebrate these differences and show how they contribute to the beauty and complexity of society, despite often being perceived as strange or abnormal.

The art show will feature a variety of works that depict the different “characters” of the circus, such as clowns, jugglers, the tightrope walker, the invisible man, the fortune teller, freaks and more. Each with their own story to tell, portrayed in a range of styles and media, from paintings and sculptures to mixed media installations. The exhibit provokes thought and encourages viewers to engage with the themes in an immersive way.

Ultimately, creating a space where people come together to appreciate and celebrate the diversity of NYC and the unique qualities that make each individual special.

By using the circus theme as a metaphor for life, Gustavo hopes to highlight the beauty and complexity of our society, as we continue to seek love and approval from one another.
