Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children, a 110+ year-old non-profit organization providing adoption and family support services, will host its annual Gala on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City. The event will bring individuals and families connected to adoption and to the work of Spence-Chapin from different parts of the world, including South Africa and Colombia, and will be highlighted by illustrious guest speakers and live performances.
The event this year has the theme of Embrace, which asks participates to join Spence-Chapin in honoring a legacy founded upon the notion that every child deserves nurturing, loving care from the start, and to embrace a vision for the future where all children can receive that love through the Spence-Chapin’s Interim Care, International Granny, and Adoption Programs.
The event will feature performances by Spence-Chapin Dad and Broadway Actor Gerard Salvador and La PachaMambo. Honorees for the evening include co-founder Clara B. Spence and her partner, Charlotte Baker, who will receive the Spence & Chapin Award for Excellence posthumously, to be accepted by their descendants; and John Knox, founder of Adoption is an Option, I am that Kid, and the Opt Institute, who will be receiving the The Second Century Humanitarian Award.
All proceeds from the event go to fund Spence-Chapin’s programs and services throughout the year, including their Special Needs Adoption, Granny, and Interim Care Programs, as well as support for women facing an unplanned pregnancy throughout New York and New Jersey, community programming for adoptees and adoptive and birth families, counseling services for individuals, couples, and families, and more. The event will celebrate the organization’s mission to connect children with loving and permanent families, provide support and counseling to all members of the adoption community, and educate the public about the adoption process.
