Monday, April 17th, 2023, will mark the start of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs’ (MOIA) 19th annual Immigrant Heritage Week (IHW) celebration where we honor our theme: WE LOVE IMMIGRANT NYC
Originally started in 2004, Immigrant Heritage Week is a week-long celebration during which we commemorate the 115th anniversary of April 17, 1907, the day in New York City history on which the largest number of immigrants – 11,000 – entered the U.S. through Ellis Island.
This year, our partners will share events from April 17th to June 30th, as June marks National Immigrant Heritage Month.
For the first time in MOIA history, we will be releasing a series of 25 illustrations every week until June 30th that highlight the ethnic enclaves and immigrant communities across New York City.
Throughout this time, we will highlight the endless contributions, rich histories, and unique cultures of our city’s diverse immigrant communities – reasons why WE LOVE IMMIGRANT NYC.
Join us in celebrating our immigrant communities, honoring New York City’s legacy as a city of immigrants, and engaging your communities through the events below.
