Amsterdam’s Iconic 3X Symbol Transformed by Mr Doodle

Mr Doodle Inspires Creatives Ahead of Red Bull Doodle Art World Final.

Acclaimed artist Sam Cox, better known as Mr Doodle, left his distinctive mark on Amsterdam, creating a unique art piece at STRAAT Museum in anticipation of the Red Bull Doodle Art World Final this May. The STRAAT Museum is dedicated to street art and graffiti, and Mr Doodle created his work live for museum-goers to see his distinctive style in action. Mr Doodle came into the museum with an open mind regarding what he was going to doodle on the custom piece representing the 3Xs. Here’s what you need to know:

• Transforming Amsterdam’s 3X Symbol: Mr Doodle applied his signature style to the historic 3X symbol, an essential element of Amsterdam’s Coat of Arms, dating back to 1505. The emblem can be seen throughout the city on street poles, flags, and buildings.

• Live Art at STRAAT Museum: Mr Doodle created the piece live at the street art and graffiti-focused STRAAT Museum. The artwork will remain on display during the Red Bull Doodle Art World Final, allowing the public to experience it up close.

• Red Bull Doodle Art World Final: Scheduled for May 25-27, 2023, the global competition will feature 62 young artists selected from over 100,000 entries. The event will offer a ‘phygital’ experience, blending physical and digital art worlds.

• Mr Doodle’s Quotes: On his freestyle approach to the artwork, Mr Doodle said, “Red Bull Doodle Art is all about doodling and letting the mind wander, so it was about doing the purest type of doodle that I possibly can.” Regarding judging the World Final, he noted, “I feel the strongest doodles are always the ones that are created naturally with no sketch and flow instinctively by themselves.”

• Public Gallery and Winner Announcement: The Red Bull Doodle Art World Final in Amsterdam will present a public gallery displaying the works of the 62 participating artists, culminating in the announcement of the 2023 Red Bull Doodle Art winner.

• The Doodle Bull: In February this year at the Oracle Red Bull Racing season launch, Mr Doodle transformed an RB14 show car into a canvas to kick off the competition, creating an exclusive piece of art. “The Doodle Bull”, which is also signed by Max Verstappen and Checo Pérez, was auctioned by The Auction Collective, in collaboration with Christie’s, via a timed online auction. A share of the proceeds went to the Team’s official charity partner, Wings for Life.
