Lane Closures Planned This Week at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Bayonne Bridge and Goethals Bridge

AirTrain EWR Suspended for Routine Maintenance Saturday Night to Sunday Morning; Free Shuttle Buses Provide Alternate Service

Newark Airport Repairs to Terminal Frontage Bridges Begin Monday Evening; Drivers Should Allow Additional Travel Time

For the week of March 3 to 9, the Port Authority encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the following:

LANE CLOSURES IN EFFECT 

George Washington Bridge:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, March 3, to 5 a.m. Saturday, March 4, two eastbound toll lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, March 3, to 8 a.m. Saturday, March 4, all lanes on the lower level will be closed in both directions. Motorists should use the upper level.
  • From 10 p.m. Saturday, March 4, to 10 a.m. Sunday, March 5, two eastbound approach lanes on the upper level will be closed. 
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, March 4, to 8 a.m. Sunday, March 5, all westbound lanes on the lower level will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the upper level.
  • On Sunday, March 5, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. all eastbound lanes on the upper and lower levels to the 178th Street exit ramp will be closed to accommodate the NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues and Shamrocks 5K Run. New York-bound motorists can use the Henry Hudson Parkway southbound to Riverside Drive.

Holland Tunnel:

  • From 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 3, to 9 a.m. Saturday, March 4, the New Jersey-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs. The New York-bound tube remains open during work.
  • From 11 p.m. Sunday, March 5, to 5:30 a.m. the following morning, and on multiple overnights through 2025, the New Jersey-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.   • From Sunday, March 5, through Thursday, March 9, from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, one eastbound lane will be closed.

Lincoln Tunnel:

  • On Saturday, March 4, from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. the center tube will be closed. New York-bound traffic will be redirected to the south tube. New Jersey-bound traffic in the north tube will not be affected. 
  • From 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 6, the north tube will be closed. New Jersey-bound traffic will be redirected to the center tube. New York-bound traffic in the south tube will not be affected. Vehicles on 10th Avenue use right on 40th Street for tunnel access to New Jersey. 
  • From 11 p.m. Monday, March 6, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, the north tube will be closed. New Jersey-bound traffic will be redirected to the center tube. New York-bound traffic in the south tube will not be affected. Vehicles on 10th Avenue use right on 40th Street for tunnel access to New Jersey.

Bayonne Bridge:

  • From 10 p.m. Monday, March 6, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, one southbound lane will be closed.

Goethals Bridge:

  • From 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, one eastbound lane will be closed. 
  • From 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 9, one eastbound truck inspection lane will be closed.
  • From 10 p.m. Thursday, March 9, to 5 a.m. Friday, March 10, one lane will be closed on Interstate 278 West.

AIRPORTS & AIRTRAIN

  • From 8 p.m. Saturday, March 4, to 7 a.m. Sunday, March 5, AirTrain EWR will be suspended for routine maintenance. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service between Newark Airport Station (Rail Link), terminals A, B, C, and stations P3 (rental car station) and P4 (the parking lot).
  • Beginning Monday evening, March 6, major roadway work on the terminal frontage bridges of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) will commence, weather permitting, to repair and replace deteriorating structural components in order to ensure continued operations and maintain a state of good repair. Work will necessitate the all-hours closure of one of the three traffic lanes servicing both terminals B and C. Updates related to this construction work will be announced on the airport website.
  • Through spring 2023, level 1 of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Yellow Parking Lot at Terminal 5 is designated only for individuals with special needs or disabilities and premium reserved parking. All other vehicles must park in levels 2 to 6. Parking attendants are available to assist on level 1. Plan ahead by checking parking availability and booking a parking spot in advance.
  • LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service is fare free year-round to encourage the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, as announced in April 2022 by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. PATH

  • The southwest entrance to the Harrison station is closed at all hours to accommodate construction under way at the station. During construction, riders are required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard.  
  • Customers who use the PATH WTC station during overnights should use the street level entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center transit lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes. All other entrances will be closed.   • As a reminder, the 9 St and 23 St stations are closed from each midnight to 5 a.m. for maintenance. Nearby PATH stations at Christopher St, 14 St and 33 St remain open 24 hours a day unless otherwise noted.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

The Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of the New York state and New Jersey public health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities. Per current New York and New Jersey public health guidance, masks are no longer required at the agency’s New York and New Jersey facilities, but masks are now optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them.

Masks also are no longer required on the interstate PATH system, including stations and platforms.
