Lane Closures Planned This Week at the George Washington Bridge,  Holland Tunnel and Goethals Bridge

Newark Liberty International Airport’s New Terminal A Now Open; All Terminal A Flights Operate from New Facility

AirTrain JFK Station Terminal 1&2 to Close Through Mid-February to Accommodate Airport Redevelopment Work; Free Buses Provide Connections Between Terminals 1 and 8

For the week of Jan. 13 to 19, the Port Authority encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the following:

LANE CLOSURES IN EFFECT 

George Washington Bridge:

  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, three eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. New York-bound motorists can exit at Hudson Terrace.
  • From 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, the eastbound Center Avenue ramp will be closed. New York-bound motorists can use Hudson Street.
  • From 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, the eastbound bus slip will be closed. New York-bound motorists can use Hudson Street.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, three westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, two westbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway to westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, the 179th Street ramp will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • On Friday, Jan. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, all westbound lanes to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be closed. Motorists should use the lower level for access to the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, two eastbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
  • On Saturday, Jan. 14, and again on Sunday, Jan. 15, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. one westbound lane on the upper level to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway ramp will be closed.
  • On Saturday, Jan. 14, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. one westbound lane on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, two eastbound approach lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, all westbound lanes to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be closed. Motorists should use the lower level for access to the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
  • On Sunday, Jan. 15, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. one westbound lane on the upper level will be closed.

Holland Tunnel:

  • From 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, to 5 a.m. the following morning, and on multiple overnights through early 2023, the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs. The New Jersey-bound tube remains open at all times during work. For more information on this critical repair project, click here.
  • From Tuesday, Jan. 17, through Thursday, Jan. 19, from 11:59 p.m. each night to 5:30 a.m. the following morning, one westbound lane will be closed.

Goethals Bridge:

  • On Wednesday, Jan. 18, and again on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, one right and one center lane will be closed on the westbound Interstate 278.

AIRPORTS & AIRTRAIN

  • Beginning Sunday, Jan. 15, through mid-February 2023, AirTrain JFK station Terminals 1&2 will be closed due to demolition work related to airport redevelopment projects. For access via AirTrain JFK, customers should use the AirTrain JFK station for Terminal 8 for connection via free buses to Terminal 1. AirTrain JFK’s Jamaica and Howard Beach lines will continue to make stops at terminals 4, 5, 7, 8, Lefferts Blvd, and Federal Circle. Signage and personnel will be available to assist customers at the bus stops for terminals 1 and 8.
  • Through spring 2023, level 1 of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Yellow Parking Lot at Terminal 5 is designated only for individuals with special needs or disabilities and premium reserved parking. All other vehicles must park in levels 2 to 6. Parking attendants are available to assist on level 1. Plan ahead by checking parking availability and booking a parking spot in advance.
  • Newark Liberty International Airport’s new Terminal A is now open, with all Terminal A flights operating from the new facility.   • LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service is fare free year-round to encourage the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, as announced in April 2022 by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. PATH

  • The southwest entrance to the Harrison station is closed at all hours to accommodate demolition work ahead of a  renovation of the station. During construction, riders are required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard. 
  • Customers who use the PATH WTC station during overnights should use the street level entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center transit lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes. All other entrances will be closed.   • As a reminder, the 9 St and 23 St stations are closed from each midnight to 5 a.m. for maintenance. Nearby PATH stations at Christopher St, 14 St and 33 St remain open 24 hours a day unless otherwise noted.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

The Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of the New York state and New Jersey public health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities. Per current New York and New Jersey public health guidance, masks are no longer required at the agency’s New York and New Jersey facilities, but masks are now optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them.

Masks also are no longer required on the interstate PATH system, including stations and platforms.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency that builds, operates, and maintains many of the most important transportation and trade infrastructure assets in the country. For over a century, the agency’s network of major airports; critical bridges, tunnels and bus terminals; a commuter rail line; and the busiest seaport on the East Coast has been among the most vital in the country – transporting hundreds of millions of people and moving essential goods into and out of the region.
