Lane Closures Planned This Week at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing

New Toll Rates for Bridges and Tunnels in Effect on Sunday, Jan. 8

REMINDER: Effective at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s bridge and tunnel cash and toll by mail rate for cars during all hours will increase from $16 to $17. Discount bridge and tunnel toll plans, including the New York/New Jersey Staten Island Bridges Discount Plan, remain in effect. For the week of Jan. 6 to 12, the Port Authority encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the following:

LANE CLOSURES IN EFFECT 

George Washington Bridge:

  • On Friday, Jan. 6, and again on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, three eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • On Friday, Jan. 6, and again on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, two eastbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
  • On Friday, Jan. 6, and again on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. New York-bound motorists can exit at Hudson Terrace.
  • On Friday, Jan. 6, and again on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, all eastbound lanes to Hudson Street will be closed. New York-bound motorists will be detoured to Center Ave and the Center Ave Eastbound ramp.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, all westbound lanes on the lower level will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the upper level.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, one westbound lane on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, all westbound lanes on the upper level to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway ramp will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, three westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, two westbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, the ramp from the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway to westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, the 179th Street ramp will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, one eastbound lane on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge will be closed.

Holland Tunnel:

  • From 11 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, to 5 a.m. the following morning, and on multiple overnights through early 2023, the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs. The New Jersey-bound tube remains open at all times during work. For more information on this critical repair project, click here.
  • From Sunday, Jan. 8, through Thursday, Jan. 12, from 11:59 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, one westbound lane will be closed.

Lincoln Tunnel:

  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, to 6:30 a.m. Saturday Jan. 7, the center tube will be closed. New York-bound traffic in the south tube and New Jersey-bound traffic in the north tube will not be affected.
  • From 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, traffic in the right lane of the center tube will be directed north to 40th and 42nd streets.

Bayonne Bridge:

  • From Tuesday, Jan. 10, through Thursday, Jan. 12, from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, one northbound lane and one southbound lane will be closed simultaneously.
  • On Tuesday, Jan. 10, and again on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, one northbound lane and one southbound lane will be closed.

Goethals Bridge:

  • On Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the eastbound right shoulder will be closed.

Outerbridge Crossing:

  • From 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, one eastbound lane will be closed. Motorists should heed signage for a detour for the Page Avenue exit.

AIRPORTS & AIRTRAIN

  • For AirTrain JFK service to airport terminals 1 and 2, customers should use the combined AirTrain JFK station 1&2 (formerly Terminal 1 station).
  • Through spring 2023, level 1 of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Yellow Parking Lot at Terminal 5 is designated only for individuals with special needs or disabilities and premium reserved parking. All other vehicles must park in levels 2 to 6. Parking attendants are available to assist on level 1. Plan ahead by checking parking availability and booking a parking spot in advance.
  • LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service is fare free year-round to encourage the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, as announced in April 2022 by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. PATH

  • The southwest entrance to the Harrison station is closed at all hours to accommodate demolition work ahead of a  renovation of the station. During construction, riders are required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard. 
  • Customers who use the PATH WTC station during overnights should use the street level entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center transit lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes. All other entrances will be closed.   • As a reminder, the 9 St and 23 St stations are closed from each midnight to 5 a.m. for maintenance. Nearby PATH stations at Christopher St, 14 St and 33 St remain open 24 hours a day unless otherwise noted.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

The Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of the New York state and New Jersey public health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities. Per current New York and New Jersey public health guidance, masks are no longer required at the agency’s New York and New Jersey facilities, but masks are now optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them.

Masks also are no longer required on the interstate PATH system, including stations and platforms.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency that builds, operates, and maintains many of the most important transportation and trade infrastructure assets in the country. For over a century, the agency’s network of major airports; critical bridges, tunnels and bus terminals; a commuter rail line; and the busiest seaport on the East Coast has been among the most vital in the country – transporting hundreds of millions of people and moving essential goods into and out of the region.
