Lane Closures Planned This Week at the George Washington Bridge and Holland Tunnel

AirTrain JFK Station 1 & 2 to Close for 8 Weeks Starting Monday Due to New Terminal Construction; Free Shuttle Buses to Provide Service

AirTrain JFK Will be Suspended for Routine Maintenance Saturday Night to Sunday Morning; Free Shuttle Buses Provide Alternate Service

JFK Airport’s Green Garage Closed for New Terminal Construction; Parking for Terminals 1 and 2 Available at Terminal 8’s Red Garage

For the week of Sept. 23 to 29, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the lane closures or service changes detailed below.

LANE CLOSURES IN EFFECT 

George Washington Bridge:

  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, one eastbound lane on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed. 
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, three westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. 
  • On Friday, Sept. 23, and again on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, two westbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed. 
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, one westbound bus departure lane on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, the ramp from the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway to westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level.
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, the 179th Street ramp will be closed. New Jersey-bound motorists can use the lower level. 
  • From 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, westbound lanes on the upper level to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway ramp will be closed. Motorists travelling to the Palisades Interstate Parkway can use the lower level.
  • From 11:59 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, all eastbound lanes on the lower level will be closed. New York-bound motorists can use the upper level.
  • From 11:59 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, the ramp from the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway to eastbound lanes on the lower level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed. New York-bound motorists can exit at 178th Street. 
  • On Saturday, Sept. 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. one westbound lane on the upper level will be closed. 
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, three eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, two eastbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed. 
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, the ramp from the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed. Motorists can exit at Hudson Terrace.
  • From 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, two eastbound lanes on the upper level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed.

Holland Tunnel:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, the right turn lane from Hudson Street onto Canal Street in Manhattan will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, to 5 a.m. the following morning, and on multiple overnights through December 2022, the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.   • From Tuesday, Sept. 27, through Thursday, Sept. 29, from 11:59 p.m. each night to 5:30 a.m. the following morning, one westbound lane will be closed.
  • From 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, multiple lanes will be closed on Hudson Street approaching Canal Street in Manhattan.

AIRPORTS & AIRTRAIN

  • Through September and early October, AirTrain Newark is running single track operations. Travelers should allow for extra travel time to and from the Rail Link station; supplemental buses are available as needed.
  • From 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, AirTrain JFK will be suspended for routine maintenance. Free shuttle buses provide service between Jamaica, Federal Circle and all airport terminal stations.
  • Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, AirTrain JFK Station 1&2 will close for eight weeks due to New Terminal One construction. Shuttle buses will provide alternate service between terminals 1, 2 and 8, making curbside stops at Terminal 1 arrivals and departures, Terminal 2 arrivals, and Terminal 8 arrivals. Airport staff will be available to help passengers at each stop. Travelers should allow for extra travel time. 
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Green Garage is closed due to New Terminal One construction. Parking for terminals 1 and 2 is available at the Red Garage at Terminal 8.
  • LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service is fare free year-round to encourage the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, as announced in April 2022 by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. PATH

  • The southwest entrance to the Harrison station is closed at all hours to accommodate demolition work ahead of a renovation of the station. During construction, riders are required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard. 
  • Customers who use the WTC PATH station during overnights should use the street level entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center Transit Lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes.   • As a reminder, the 9 Street and 23 Street stations are closed from each midnight to 5 a.m. for maintenance. Nearby PATH stations at Christopher Street, 14 Street and 33 Street remain open 24 hours a day unless otherwise noted.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

The Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of the New York state and New Jersey public health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities. Per current New York and New Jersey public health guidance, masks are no longer required at the agency’s New York and New Jersey facilities, but masks are now optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them.

Masks also are no longer required on the interstate PATH system, including stations and platforms.
