The Museum of Modern Art

Screening in its US premiere, artist Ken Okiishi’s most recent moving-image work, Vital Behaviors, is an engrossing take on the studio portrait. In tasking his real-life fitness coach with re-staging social media photographs, Okiishi unpacks notions of memory, identity, and affect in visual culture to confounding, tantalizing, and even quietly moving effect.

MoMA’s presentation of Vital Behaviors will unfold via a hybrid of virtual and in-person screenings:

July 22-August 6: MoMA’s Virtual Cinema

July 22: Screening in MoMA’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden

July 28-30: Matinee screenings in MoMA’s Titus Theaters

Vital Behaviors will be accompanied by a Carte Blanche presentation of films selected by the artist, July 27-August 3.
