SAT, Dec 12, 2020, 11–11:40 am, Online, via Zoom, Families with kids of all ages

You are invited to Open Studio From Home, free weekly online art classes with Whitney Educators! Participants will experiment, create, and learn together with at-home art materials.

Simone Leigh draws from a variety of sources—including the art of ancient Egypt, traditional West African adobe structures, American domestic architecture, and craft—to explore ideas about the Black female body, race, beauty, and community. Her sculptures suggest the presence of figures—powerful Black women crowned by Afros.

Together we will make our own clay from supplies in our kitchens. Then, we will sculpt a powerful, wearable charm that celebrates a strong woman in your life.
