Become a Member to attend a two-night lecture by Associate Curator of Asian Art, Kurt Behrendt, on Buddhist art, sculpture, painting, and more. Take a journey and explore how monks, merchants, and rulers used artwork to give Buddhist ideas form and inspire people to embrace a doctrine of selflessness. The first night begins with the early Buddhist tradition, including The Buddha’s life and doctrine in India and the artworks that helped to spread these ideas across Asia. Night two explores the later tradition, presenting the use of art as a focus for powerful Vajrayana tantric ritual.
