10 State Landmarks To Be Lit the Evening of Wednesday, December 21
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that 10 state landmarks will be illuminated blue and yellow tonight, Wednesday, December 21, in honor of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveling to the United States to meet with President Biden and address a joint session of Congress. This trip to Washington, D.C. marks President Zelensky’s first trip outside of Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February.
“New York wishes President Zelensky well as he addresses Congress and meets with President Biden,” Governor Hochul said. “We continue to affirm our support for our Ukrainian communities here in New York State and abroad.”
Landmarks that will be illuminated include:
- One World Trade Center
- Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
- Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
- Empire State Plaza
- State Fairgrounds – Main Gate & Expo Center
- Niagara Falls
- The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge
- Albany International Airport Gateway
- MTA LIRR – East End Gateway at Penn Station
- Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
Earlier this year, the Governor announced an Executive Order to prohibit state agencies and authorities from contracting with entities that continue to do business in Russia. In early March, Governor Hochul announced actions to strengthen the Department of Financial Services’ enforcement of sanctions against Russia, including the expedited procurement of additional blockchain analytics technology. In February, Governor Hochul ordered all state agencies and authorities to divest public funds from Russia and stop doing business with Russian companies.
