The Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver, the seventh stop on the World Surf League (WSL) 2021 Championship Tour (CT), will continue today with the men’s Elimination Round starting at 7:35 a.m. CDT in clean three-to-six-foot surf at Barra de la Cruz. The women’s Elimination Round will follow, and then the competition will move into the men’s Round of 32, utilizing the overlapping format.
“We are on here at the Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL SVP of Tours and Head of Competition. “We are starting with the men’s Elimination Round at 7:35 a.m. local time. After we finish those heats, we will complete the women’s Elimination Round. Next, we will run the overlapping format for the men’s Round of 32. We look forward to another great day of competition here at Barra de la Cruz.”
Up first this morning will be current World No. 6 Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) against Peterson Crisanto (BRA) and wildcard Diego Cadena (MEX) in men’s Elimination Round 1, Heat 1. Igarashi is one spot shy of the WSL Final 5 and needs to make it through the event’s first Elimination heat to strengthen his chances of making it to the one-day event to determine the World Champions in September.
