The first-ever GADIS Junior Pro Ferrol is underway in Galicia, launching this morning in 2 – 3 foot surf with two big days of competition ahead.

Stop No.2 of 4 on the 2020/21 World Surf League (WSL) European Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), the GADIS Junior Pro Ferrol  is a major step for European Under-18 surfers towards locking in a spot for the World Junior Championships as well as in the race for the regional junior crown in 2021.

Stop No.2 Brings Surfers to Popular New Venue

For the first time, competitors will take on one of the most popular and quality beach breaks in the region, praia de Doniños in Ferrol. This one kilometer long stretch of white sand faces West directly and receives plenty of swell even on the smallest of summer days.

The layout of the seafloor and sand movements in the area produce multiple peaks that can distill long rippable walls and barrels in the right conditions. Simply put, Doniños is the perfect place to hold a comp.

European Junior Title Race Heats Up

After an epic start to the season in Northwest France a few weeks back, Adur Amatriain (EUK) and Lucia Machado (CNY) lead the way and have a target on their backs as Stop No. 2 unfolds. They will need to confirm their current form and fend off the army of newcomers wanting a piece of the European tour pie.

Qualification for the WSL Junior Championships, possibly held in Asia at the end of the year, also hangs in the balance. The prestigious event that gathers the best talents worldwide under the age of 18, has an A-list of past winners and is a true test for any athlete who wants to make a career of pro surfing.
